The Word Is Out on Legal Tussles Among Creators of ‘The Secret’

The secret does not seem to have brought happiness to some of those involved in the creation of “The Secret.” But perhaps high-priced lawyers will help.

When I worked on Graham Ave. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, there was a fortune teller on the block. She would often come into our store/warehouse an offer to give my boss and his family (this was before I started working there) winning Lotto numbers for a small fee. My boss would ask her, "Why don't you just play Lotto with these winning numbers yourself?" She responded that her powers only worked to help others, and would fail if she tried to gain by them herself. She stopped dropping in eventually. I imagine that this line of bullshit has been used by scam artists since the dawn of mankind.

Osama bin Laden Endorses McCain!

Hey, it makes about as much sense as saying that some terrorists endorse Obama.

And add another flip-flop for McCain, the "Straight Talker":

The Tide Can't Turn When It's Run Out of Beach

Clinton says tide is turning - Salon.com
Clinton still faces a daunting road, thanks to Obama's earlier string of victories, and a diminished field of contests still ahead. She was hoping that party leaders known as super-delegates would see her Pennsylvania victory as validation of her claim that she's the one with the experience and judgment to take on the issues Americans care about.

Anti-Human or Anti-Stupid?

Global warming deniers insist that environmentalists are anti-human and want to curb human potential. Of course, this is nonsensical, despite the existence of a few actual anti-human dopes.

Most people who aren't beasts recognize that it's not a great idea to shit where you eat. If keeping the excrement out of the kitchenette entails growing a bit slower and a lot smarter, only a beast wouldn't do it.

Scumbags in the Heartland

Let's see some jail time for these pieces of shit:
Cities Caught Illegally Tampering With Traffic Lights To Increase Revenue Of Red Light Cameras
More here:
Six US cities tamper with traffic cameras for profit
The cities in question include Union City, CA, Dallas and Lubbock, TX, Nashville and Chattanooga, TN, Springfield, MO, according to Motorists.org, which collected information from reports from around the country. This isn't the first time traffic cameras have been questioned as to their effectiveness in preventing accidents. In one case, the local government was forced to issue refunds by more than $1 million to motorists who were issued tickets for running red lights.

Is This the End of the Jeffs Cult ?

401 children from polygamist sect in custody - Los Angeles Times
Texas officials said Monday that they had taken more than 400 children into temporary state custody while they continued investigating allegations that girls at a remote polygamist compound were being sexually abused by men.

"This is the biggest single removal in the history of this agency," Child Protective Services spokesman Darrell Azar said Monday evening. "No one can remember anything quite like it. We had enough information to show a judge that many of these children had in fact been abused and others were in jeopardy."

This can only be good. No child can mature into a normal adult when raised in that twisted environment. This cult represents the dark side of freedom of religion. That's one reason why I choose to be free of religion.

Yoo Suck

Memo: Laws Didn't Apply to Interrogators - washingtonpost.com
"If a government defendant were to harm an enemy combatant during an interrogation in a manner that might arguably violate a criminal prohibition, he would be doing so in order to prevent further attacks on the United States by the al Qaeda terrorist network," Yoo wrote. "In that case, we believe that he could argue that the executive branch's constitutional authority to protect the nation from attack justified his actions."

Interrogators who harmed a prisoner would be protected by a "national and international version of the right to self-defense," Yoo wrote. He also articulated a definition of illegal conduct in interrogations -- that it must "shock the conscience" -- that the Bush administration advocated for years.

And we all completely believe that torture was only used "to prevent further attacks on the United States by the al Qaeda terrorist network." After all, there are no other terrorist groups and there are no other threats to our nation beside al Qaeda, right?
